N10b Defamation Threat: Kwankwaso misunderstood my prophecy, I only said what God told me – Primate Ayodele
The leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Elijah Ayodele, has denied allegations of defamation levelled against him by former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The dispute arose after Kwankwaso threatened legal action over a prophecy in which Ayodele allegedly stated that the former governor would betray former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi in his presidential ambition.
In a statement issued through his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Ayodele maintained that he never intended to attack or malign Kwankwaso’s character, insisting that he merely conveyed a prophetic message he claimed to have received from God.
According to the cleric, there is no personal relationship or conflict between him and Kwankwaso that would warrant a deliberate attempt to tarnish the politician’s reputation.
“I wish to state clearly that the purpose of my prophecies has never been to defame, malign or attack anyone’s personality. I only speak based on what I receive from the throne of God,” he said.
“I have never met Senator Kwankwaso, nor have I had any personal issues with him. Therefore, there is absolutely no reason for me to deliberately target or attack him.”
Ayodele explained that his comments regarding Kwankwaso’s political future were purely based on what he described as divine revelation and not on personal opinions or political considerations.
He argued that the prophecy had been misunderstood and misrepresented by individuals interested in the politician’s career, adding that the situation could have been avoided if clarification had been sought before legal threats were issued.
“For the sake of clarity, I would like to state that my message was greatly misunderstood and misrepresented by those interested in Kwankwaso’s political career. Sadly, even the politician misunderstood my statement and perceived it as a personal attack,” he said.
The cleric further stressed that he respects Kwankwaso and all public figures he speaks about, noting that his prophecies are not influenced by personal relationships, sentiments or grievances.
He urged public figures who are the subject of his prophecies to seek clarification whenever necessary rather than resorting to accusations or legal threats.
Ayodele also warned individuals who manipulate or edit his videos for political or personal purposes, saying such actions distort his messages and mislead the public.
“I strongly urge those involved to desist immediately, as appropriate action will be taken against anyone found guilty of deliberately altering my messages for ulterior motives,” he said.
The controversy follows a legal demand reportedly issued by Kwankwaso’s lawyers seeking a retraction and apology over comments they described as defamatory.
