Osun Guber: APGA candidate steps down for APC’s Oyebamiji

The governorship ambition of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, received a boost on Saturday as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, stepped down and endorsed him.

The development came barely a week before the August 15 off-cycle governorship election and followed consultations with APGA executives across the state.

Adeyemi-Doro announced his decision at a political gathering in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where he pledged the support of his supporters and APGA members for Oyebamiji in the election.

He said the decision was reached after consultations with the state chairman, secretary and other senior members of the party.

“I am here today to declare publicly to the good people of Osun State our allegiance, support and collaboration as we join His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, and the APC.

“I have been watching the candidates closely, and after wide consultations with my state chairman, secretary and other senior members of the party, we have reached an alignment. At the end of the day, we are all progressives.

“We look forward to a situation where, by the special grace of God, we will deliver Osun State to our governor, Oyebamiji,” he said.

Responding, Oyebamiji commended the APGA candidate for the endorsement and assured members of the party that they would be accommodated in his administration if he wins the election.

“Thank you so much. I appreciate this, and I want to assure you that we will work together to rescue Osun State from the current bad government. Your people will be taken care of,” Oyebamiji said.

He added that his campaign would continue to reach out to members of other political parties in a bid to build a broader coalition ahead of the election.

“I am glad about this development, and we will also reach out to other parties so that we can join hands together to build a greater Osun State,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Ambassador Issah Adedotun Niniola, Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, described Adeyemi-Doro’s decision as a boost to the APC’s chances in the August 15 governorship election.

Niniola said the development would also strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“Let me commend Prince Adeyemi-Doro for this bold step. This will not only lead to the victory of Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji in the August 15 election, but it will also boost the chances of our dear father, President Bola Tinubu, in 2027.

“APC is the party to beat, and this shows that people are in tune with the Renewed Hope initiatives of Mr President,” he said.
