Police arrest suspected armed robber with human hand, firearms in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old suspected armed robber found in possession of a suspected human hand, firearms and other items believed to have been stolen from robbery victims.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the suspect was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, was travelling in an unregistered commercial shuttle bus with five other passengers when police operatives intercepted the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle and its occupants reportedly led to the recovery of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one Point-of-Sale (POS) terminal and five ATM cards from the suspect.
Police said Onilewaji confessed to recently robbing three people of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.
The command added that efforts are ongoing to identify and contact the victims so their stolen property can be returned.
According to SP Adebisi, investigators are also working to determine the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, establish how the suspect came into possession of it, and uncover its intended use.
She further stated that efforts are underway to identify and arrest other suspected accomplices connected to the case.
The police said the suspect would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating violent crime and other criminal activities across Lagos State.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies to support crime prevention and enhance public safety.
