PDP NWC appoints Kayode Ogunbiyi as acting Lagos chairman
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has authorised the party’s Lagos State Deputy Chairman, Kayode Ogunbiyi, to serve as its acting state chairman.
The decision was conveyed in a letter dated November 3, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Umar Bature.
The authorisation empowers Ogunbiyi to oversee the affairs of the party in Lagos State in an acting capacity.
The letter, with reference number PDP/NOS/GF1/Vol.1/009 and titled “Authorisation to Act as Acting Chairman”, was addressed to the deputy chairman of the party in the state.
Bature said the decision followed the ill health of the substantive chairman, Mr Muka Popoola.
All these were disclosed in a NAN report on Saturday.
“Due to the ill health of the substantive Chairman of Lagos State, Muka Popoola, the National Organising Secretary (NOS), on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC), hereby authorises the State Deputy Chairman of the party to act as the chairman with effect from the date of this letter pending when a congress could be organised accordingly,” the letter read.
According to him, Ogunbiyi’s appointment took immediate effect from November 3, pending the organisation of a party congress.
The National Organising Secretary congratulated the acting chairman on his new responsibility.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the development places Ogunbiyi in charge of the party’s affairs in the state pending the organisation of a congress to determine the substantive leadership.
