PFIPC Scandal: Fresh documents show SGF’s office cleared Adeyemi for Canada summit

Published

Fresh documents indicating that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) approved a foreign trip for the Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) have added another layer to a controversy that refuses to fade.

The Presidency has maintained that the PFIPC never existed and described Adeniyi Adeyemi as an impostor.

Yet, the emergence of an official document purportedly authorising his participation in an international summit inevitably raises difficult questions.

If the council was non-existent, how did its alleged head receive official recognition? If the document is authentic, who approved it and under what authority? If it is not, how did it find its way into official government processes?

These are questions that deserve clear, factual and transparent answers—not political exchanges.

The controversy has now attracted reactions from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and SERAP, all of whom are demanding greater accountability.

Their concerns reflect a broader public expectation that government institutions should operate with transparency and proper oversight.

Whether the issue stems from administrative failures, weak internal controls or something more serious, the credibility of public institutions is at stake. Nigerians deserve to know how a body the Presidency says does not exist reportedly secured official correspondence, interacted with government agencies and even received a budget allocation running into over ₦1.3 billion.

Ultimately, this is no longer just about the PFIPC.

It is about strengthening public trust in government institutions.

A thorough, independent investigation that establishes the facts and holds anyone found culpable accountable would do far more to restore confidence than competing public statements.

In matters involving public funds and the integrity of government institutions, transparency is not optional, it is essential.
