Tinubu holds closed-door meeting with Alia, Suswam amid Benue APC senatorial ticket crisis
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with Hyacinth Alia and former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, amid the ongoing dispute over the Benue Central All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket.
Suswam, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, was initially declared the winner of the party’s Benue Central senatorial primary before the result was overturned by the party’s appeal committee.
Details of the meeting were not immediately available, as discussions were being held behind closed doors.
The meeting comes amid a deepening crisis within the Benue APC, where Governor Alia and supporters of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, remain locked in a struggle for control of the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Although it has not been independently confirmed whether the Benue political crisis is the main subject of the meeting, its timing has fuelled speculation that the Presidency is seeking to ease tensions, reconcile rival interests, and promote unity within the party in the state.
The Presidency had not issued an official statement on the outcome of the meeting as of the time of filing this report.
