BREAKING: APC set to officially unveil Shettima as Tinubu’s 2027 running mate
The stage is set at the Continental Hotel, Abuja, where leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have gathered to officially unveil Vice President Kashim Shettima as the running mate to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
The development comes amid weeks of speculation that President Tinubu might opt for a Christian from Northern Nigeria ahead of his re-election bid. However, Discoverer Nigeria reports that Vice President Shettima will be formally unveiled at the event.
Before the announcement, names such as former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, from the North-East, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, from the North-Central, had been mentioned as possible replacements.
Our correspondent at the venue reports that the APC National Chairman, his deputies from the North and South, the National Secretary, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), and other senior party leaders are already seated ahead of the unveiling.
The development comes a day before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline of Saturday, July 11, 2026, for political parties to upload the names of their presidential and National Assembly candidates to its nomination portal.
