The Federal Government has renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, making it one of several major public facilities that now bear the president’s name since he assumed office in May 2023.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision on Thursday, stating that the 750-kilometre highway was named in Tinubu’s honour because the project was first conceived during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State nearly three decades ago.

According to Umahi, the coastal highway was envisioned about 27 years ago, long before Tinubu became president.

The latest development adds to a growing list of roads, public buildings, educational institutions and government facilities that have been renamed or established in the president’s honour over the past two years.

Major Public Assets Named After President Tinubu

1. Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway became the latest infrastructure project to bear Tinubu’s name after the Federal Ministry of Works announced its renaming on July 16, 2026.

Umahi said the decision recognised the president’s long-standing vision for the project.

2. Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna

In March 2024, Niger State Governor Umar Bago renamed the Abubakar Imam International Airport in Minna as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, citing the president’s support for the state.

The move generated public debate because the airport had only recently been named after renowned writer Abubakar Imam.

3. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, Abuja

In May 2024, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike renamed the Abuja Southern Parkway as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way following its reconstruction.

The road links the Christian Centre to Ring Road One in the Federal Capital Territory.

4. National Assembly Library

Also in May 2024, the National Assembly named its newly completed library after President Tinubu.

The project was initiated by the Ninth Assembly and completed during the Tenth Assembly before being inaugurated by the president.

5. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC)

In December 2024, the Nigeria Immigration Service named its command and control centre the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Technology Innovation Complex (BATTIC).

The facility serves as a hub for border security, migration management and technological innovation.

6. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic

The Federal Government approved the establishment of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Abuja, in January 2025.

The institution is expected to provide technical, vocational and entrepreneurial education.

7. Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks

Also in January 2025, the Nigerian Army named its newly completed barracks in Asokoro, Abuja, after President Tinubu.

The military said the honour recognised the president’s support for the armed forces.

8. Tinubu International Conference Centre

In June 2025, the Federal Capital Territory Administration renamed the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC) as the Tinubu International Conference Centre following extensive renovation.

Several halls within the complex were also renamed after senior government officials.

With the renaming of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, at least eight major public infrastructure projects and institutions have now been named after President Tinubu since he assumed office in May 2023.
