A Sharia Court in Gwarjo village, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State, came under attack on Wednesday after armed bandits invaded the premises, forcing the presiding judge to flee through a window to avoid being kidnapped.

The incident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. when the gunmen reportedly stormed the court and opened fire indiscriminately, sending court officials, litigants, and other residents scrambling for safety.

Sources said the presiding judge, Mohammed Muktar, was hearing matters inside the courtroom when he noticed the armed men approaching from a distance.

Realising the imminent danger, he quickly escaped through a window before the attackers could reach him.

The attack disrupted court proceedings and created panic in the community, while residents fled the area to avoid being caught in the violence.

“He quickly jumped through one of the courtroom windows and escaped before they entered the courtroom.

“The bandits entered the courtroom, fired indiscriminately and repeatedly asked for the judge.”

As of the time of filing this report, the police and the Katsina State Government had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
