DSS nabs three more suspects over abduction of Nasarawa University Dean
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested three more suspects allegedly linked to the kidnapping of the Dean of Agriculture at Nasarawa State University, Professor Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor.
The latest arrests were reportedly made on Friday night at a local brothel in Mararaban Akunza, along the Lafia-Makurdi highway.
Okunsebor was rescued by DSS operatives two days after he was abducted by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Mile Uku, a border community between Lafia and Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Areas.
Two suspects, including a woman, had earlier been arrested by the security agency in connection with the abduction.
A security source said the three additional suspects were picked up during an operation at the location on Friday night.
The arrests bring to five the number of suspects apprehended so far in connection with the kidnapping of the university don.
According to the source, “the suspects were identified as 25-year-old Yakubu Abubakar (aka Black/Starboy), of the Doemak tribe in Plateau State; 37-year-old Usman Abubakar Mairiga, and 27-year-old Sale Babauro Abubakar. Mairiga and Abubakar are Hausa and Fulani respectively, the source added.
The source also disclosed that the suspects are in the custody of the State Command for further, investigations. The move, he added, followed a valid detention warrant from a magistrate’s court.
