Osun 2026: Adeleke made ‘unbelievable mistake’ leaving PDP for Accord — APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe

All Progressives Congress chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

Igbokwe described the governor’s defection as an “unbelievable mistake”, arguing that Adeleke should have joined the ruling APC instead.

The APC chieftain made the comment in a post on his Facebook page on Monday.

Adeleke had left the PDP following prolonged internal leadership disputes, factional divisions and conflicting legal claims within the party before joining Accord to pursue his second-term bid.

Reacting to the development, Igbokwe said the governor should have considered joining the APC, particularly because of President Bola Tinubu’s family ties to Osun State.

“Governor Adeleke made an unbelievable mistake when he left PDP to the Accord Party instead of joining APC knowing fully well that PBAT has a family link with Osun State,” he wrote.

Analyst Faults Accord Defection

A former Special Adviser to the Senate President and public affairs analyst, Kenny Okolugbo, also criticised Adeleke’s decision to join Accord.

Speaking on Arise Television on Sunday, Okolugbo argued that the move could weaken Adeleke’s chances of securing re-election because traditional PDP supporters could still vote for the party, which remains on the ballot.

“People will still vote for the PDP because the party is on the ballot, and he could lose some of those votes,” Okolugbo said.

The analyst suggested that Adeleke could have secured a stronger political advantage by joining the African Democratic Congress instead of Accord.

“If I were him, I would have left the PDP for the ADC because he would have had a greater advantage over the APC,” he said.

Okolugbo added, “I think he didn’t play that political move well.”

Adeleke’s defection has added another layer to the political contest ahead of the Osun governorship election, with the governor now seeking re-election under Accord amid realignments involving the PDP, APC and other political parties.
