JUST IN: Osun Senator Fadahunsi granted bail following Police probe into viral death threat comment

Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, has been granted bail by the Osun State Police Command after being questioned over a viral comment in which he allegedly called for members of the Accord Party to be killed.

The senator was invited for questioning following a video shared on X on Tuesday. In the video, Fadahunsi, who spoke in Yoruba, appeared to call on his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party.

The comment sparked widespread criticism, with political opponents and other groups condemning the senator’s remarks.

Following the backlash, Fadahunsi sought to clarify his position, saying his statement had been misunderstood and that his words were misinterpreted.

The police subsequently questioned the lawmaker before granting him bail.

Fadahunsi had visited the Osun state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) office in Osogbo, the state capital, around 2pm on Wednesday following a formal invitation by the police over the viral comment.

However, a video posted by News Central Television showed the senator leaving the premises and entering his black Jeep in the company of other party supporters.

Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson of the Osun state police, confirmed this to TheCable, saying the senator has been granted an administrative bail, while the case continues.

“Yes, the senator has been granted administrative bail. But the case still continues,” Ojelabi.

In a summon letter dated August 11, 2026, the police had asked the senator to “clarify the circumstances” surrounding the statements allegedly made during an APC campaign in Ilesa, a town in Osun state, on Tuesday.

The letter, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, the commissioner of police elections in Osun state, ordered Fadahunsi to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00 am.

“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the document reads.
