Nigerians don’t need leaders who are too big to talk to them, Obi is the only major candidate engaging Nigerians, NDC hits Atiku, Tinubu

Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the absence of President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from a political Peace Accord signing organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The NDC’s Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, said Nigerians needed presidential candidates who were willing to engage directly with them rather than leaders who appeared inaccessible.

Agada made the comment on Tuesday while reacting to the absence of Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), from the event.

According to him, Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, has demonstrated greater willingness to interact with Nigerians by attending important public engagements.

“The presidential candidates of the APC and the ADC, President Bola Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, were conspicuously absent from the Peace Accord signing and the NBA event in Port Harcourt,” Agada wrote in a post on X.

He claimed that Obi was the only major presidential candidate who attended the events, describing the former Anambra State governor as accessible to Nigerians.

“Only the presidential candidate of our great party, the NDC, His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, has been the only major candidate in this election attending these important events,” he said.

Agada added: “Nigerians do not need people who are too big to talk to them.”

He maintained that Obi had remained available for engagements with citizens and had continued to meet and interact with Nigerians ahead of the 2027 election.

“Our candidate has been readily available, meeting and talking with Nigerians,” he stated.

The comments come as political parties and presidential candidates begin intensifying their activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with public engagements and debates increasingly becoming part of the political conversation.
