BREAKING: NFF President Ibrahim Gusau resigns
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, has resigned from office.
Gusau announced his resignation on Thursday at the NFF Secretariat in Abuja, bringing an end to his tenure amid growing concerns over the state of Nigerian football.
The NFF president confirmed his decision during a press conference with journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.
His resignation followed several days of reports that Gusau and some members of the NFF Executive Committee had stepped down, although the claims had initially not received official confirmation.
Gusau’s departure comes amid mounting criticism from football stakeholders and Nigerians over the performance and administration of the country’s football.
The NFF leadership had faced increased scrutiny following a series of disappointing results involving Nigeria’s national teams, most notably the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The latest development is expected to trigger further changes within the leadership of the football federation and has raised fresh questions about the immediate direction of Nigerian football.
The resignation also comes at a critical period for the NFF, with the federation expected to organise the process for electing a new executive leadership.
