2027: APC chieftain resigns, rejects support for Tinubu, Bauchi Governorship candidate

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Captain Mohammed Bala Jibrin, has resigned from the ruling party and declared that he will not support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the party’s Bauchi State governorship candidate, Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar, in the 2027 general elections.

Bala Jibrin, a retired pilot and aeronautical engineer, announced his resignation on Monday in a letter dated August 31, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Nassarawa/Bakin Kasuwan Ward in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

He attributed his decision to what he described as “brazen injustice” and the alleged imposition of candidates without regard for the views of party members and supporters.

The former APC governorship aspirant said his resignation and withdrawal of support for the party would take immediate effect.

“I came to this conclusion due mainly to the brazen injustice and imposition of candidates for elective offices with no regard to party members in Bauchi State. The views of our supporters and constituents are apparently of no consequence,” he stated.

Bala Jibrin said he reached the decision after consulting his supporters, friends and associates, who, according to him, endorsed his choice to leave the party.

“After an interaction with my supporters, friends, and associates, my decision for exiting the APC was endorsed; that is, it is the best option in the circumstances,” he said.

He described his resignation as “the most honourable move,” rather than remaining in the party where he felt members were treated with contempt.

“Accept most kindly, my exit as this is the most honourable move than staying put and rewarded with contempt,” he stated.

Bala Jibrin had previously sought the APC governorship ticket in Bauchi State but later withdrew from the race during the party’s 2026 governorship primary process.

He had also been a vocal critic of the APC’s decision to field former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar, popularly known as M.A. Abubakar, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Before the primary, Bala Jibrin opposed the emergence of the former governor, arguing that Abubakar was not suitable to represent the party in the election.

He subsequently alleged that Abubakar’s emergence was the result of what he described as underhanded manoeuvring and candidate imposition.

The APC chieftain has now gone further by declaring that he would neither support Abubakar’s governorship bid nor Tinubu’s presidential candidacy in 2027, arguing that both had not demonstrated a genuine commitment to prioritising the welfare of the people.

His resignation adds to the internal disagreements confronting the ruling party in Bauchi State as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
