EFCC moves against lawyers charging clients in foreign currencies
The EFCC official said lawyers found engaging in the practice of charging clients in foreign currencies would be dealt with in line with the law.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has warned that legal practitioners who charge their clients in foreign currencies may face prosecution.
The warning was issued by the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, ACE I Bawa Usman Kaltungo, on Friday, September 11, 2026.
Kaltungo spoke when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Task Force on Illegal Practice of Law at his office in Lagos.
The delegation, led by its Head, Moshood Abiola, was in the office for a courtesy visit.
The EFCC official said lawyers found engaging in the practice of charging clients in foreign currencies would be dealt with in line with the law.
Kaltungo expressed concern over lawyers engaging in what he described as illegal and unethical practices during the meeting.
“The Commission would not hesitate to prosecute anyone found culpable,” Kaltungo said.
