Nasarawa ex-Speaker urges defectors to return to APC ahead of 2027 polls
He likened the situation to building a house and leaving it “at the time you need it most,” urging the affected members to reconsider their decision and return to the APC.
The immediate past Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe, has appealed to aggrieved members who left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for other political parties to return to the party.
Balarabe said the call was necessary because many of the members had contributed to building the APC but later abandoned it when their presence was most needed.
The former Speaker made the appeal while speaking with journalists in Lafia on Tuesday.
He likened the situation to building a house and leaving it “at the time you need it most,” urging the affected members to reconsider their decision and return to the APC.
Balarabe’s call followed the recent defection of the immediate past Chairman of Toto Local Government Area, Aliyu Abdullahi, from the APC.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that on September 14, the former chairman announced his resignation from the ruling APC.
The former speaker advocated for calm among APC members in Toto local government area.
Balarabe, who disagreed with the move by the former chairman, enjoined him to set aside whatever grievances and opt for dialogue, to resolve their differences amicably.
He also urged him to withdraw the resignation letter earlier issued and return to the APC.
“You cannot leave the house you have built for another person to inherit.
“APC is our home, it is our party, and our victory is assured by the will of Allah. We will get there. We will deliver our LGA In-Sha-Allah, come 2027.
“We cannot fold our hands and watch our party lose its members. We cannot fold our hands and allow our people to leave.
“In politics, everyone matters. The grassroots matter because politics is local, this is a fact,” Balarabe said.
The former speaker observed that success of APC as a party in the area come 2027, solidly depends on the unity and peace among the party members in the area.
“Unity of purpose is paramount for the task ahead of us, and no matter what, we must unite our people to facilitate victory in 2027,” he added.
