Like Atiku, El-Rufai officially joins ADC, picks membership card
Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), months after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Very Nigerian reports that El-Rufai registered and collected his membership card at the ADC office in U/Sarki Ward, Kaduna State.
He was accompanied by a large group of supporters, including former appointees and local government chairmen.
El-Rufai, who also served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, resigned from the APC on 10 March 2025.
In his resignation letter, he cited a growing disconnect between his personal values and the current direction of the party as the main reason for his defection.
He criticised the APC leadership for abandoning the progressive ideals upon which the party was founded, adding that his repeated warnings over the past two years about the party’s trajectory were ignored.
“Developments in the last two years confirm that there is no desire on the part of those who currently control and run the APC to acknowledge, much less address, the unhealthy situation of the party,” he wrote in his resignation letter.
El-Rufai, who played a key role in the 2013 merger of opposition parties that led to the formation of the APC, lamented that the party had lost its original vision.
The defection marks another significant political shift in Kaduna State and signals ongoing realignments ahead of future elections.
