‘At 17, I was already casting out demons’ – Gov Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has spoken about his teenage years, revealing that he began participating in spiritual activities, including what he described as “casting out demons,” when he was about 17 years old.

The governor made the disclosure during a church service at The Votage Church, where he shared some experiences from his youth and spoke about what he described as spiritual battles and encounters with cultism.

Addressing young worshippers at the service, Okpebholo said seeing the youths in church brought back memories of his own teenage years and the experiences he had at that time.

He used the opportunity to reflect on his early life and the challenges he said he faced while growing up, particularly his encounters with spiritual activities and cult-related issues.

“When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at 17, 18, I had also started casting out demons,” Okpebholo said.

He said his experiences as a young man had given him a personal understanding of some of the challenges facing youths, particularly insecurity and cult-related activities.

“Fighting insecurity, especially cultism, is not a new thing to me. It is something that has been happening,” he added.

The governor also spoke about the influence of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa on his spiritual background.

The church’s lead pastor, while speaking about the governor’s visit, described it as an opportunity to appreciate his commitment to the people and pray for the progress of Edo State.

The pastor stressed the importance of leaders seeking spiritual guidance and encouraged continued efforts towards peace and development across the state.

In a statement issued after the service, The Votage Church said it was honoured to host Governor Okpebholo, adding that prayers were offered for the peace, progress and prosperity of Edo State.
