OK Movement Coordinator arrested as Police disrupt One-Million-March for Obi in Akwa Ibom
The planned One Million-Man March for Peter Obi in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has reportedly suffered a setback, with participants said to have fled amid tension surrounding the planned political procession.
The march, organised by the OK Movement to mobilise support for the former Anambra State governor ahead of the 2027 presidential election, was scheduled for Thursday, October 1.
However, reports from the location indicate that participants began dispersing, while there was no clear sign that the planned procession would proceed as scheduled.
The development followed reports of the arrest of the movement’s Akwa Ibom State Coordinator, Elijah Noah, and the alleged use of tear gas against some supporters.
It also came after the Akwa Ibom State Police Command reportedly announced restrictions on political gatherings for the day.
The organisers had maintained that the march would be peaceful, despite the reported police restriction.
The situation has left the fate of the planned One Million-Man March uncertain, as supporters and organisers await further developments.
The reported circumstances surrounding the dispersal and the police’s account of the incident have yet to be independently confirmed.
