A 55-year-old driver has escaped without injuries after a train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway intersection in Lagos State on Friday morning.

The incident involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT.

Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), disclosed the incident in a statement.

According to Taofiq, LASTMA officials and security personnel rescued the driver following the collision and removed the damaged vehicle from the railway track.

The driver reportedly escaped without injuries, while the wrecked car was cleared from the track to allow the railway line to be used again.

He added that the collision left the car extensively damaged, while the train resumed its journey towards Agege after the vehicle was removed.

However, Taofiq said traffic remains heavily congested around the PWD axis following the incident.

He noted that no casualty was recorded and that the wrecked vehicle was handed over to security personnel for further investigation.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA general manager, commended the agency’s operatives and security personnel for their prompt response and coordination during the rescue operation.

Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution around railway crossings and designated train corridors, warning against attempting to cross the tracks when a train is approaching or in motion.

He said adherence to railway safety regulations and prompt emergency response are essential to preventing accidents and protecting lives.

The LASTMA boss also urged road users to comply with traffic and railway safety rules, reiterating that human life must remain a priority.
