Grace Ike and the rebirth of NUJ FCT

Published

on

Leadership, when anchored on vision and integrity, has the power to revive institutions that once seemed adrift.

This truth has been unmistakable in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council under the stewardship of Comrade Grace Ike, whose first year in office has signalled a remarkable turnaround in the Council’s culture, credibility and professional standing.

For years, the FCT Council struggled under the weight of weak leadership and internal disarray.

But the past 12 months have shown that with purpose-driven direction, a union can reclaim its dignity.

The Grace Ike administration has not only steadied the ship but transformed it into an active, respected voice within Nigeria’s media landscape.

One of the most symbolic achievements of the past year is the launch of the Council’s official website, now widely regarded as one of the most reliable and professionally run platforms in the country.

At a time when misinformation threatens the essence of journalism, this digital overhaul has positioned the Council as a credible source of verified news and union affairs.

Beyond technology, the administration has restored confidence in the Council’s internal processes, strengthened welfare mechanisms, and rekindled a spirit of unity among members.

The NUJ FCT today is more assertive, more organised, and more respected, qualities that reflect the character of its leadership.

As the Council marks its one-year anniversary, the celebration is not merely ceremonial.

It is a recognition of a new era built on transparency, accountability and progressive reforms.

The accompanying groundbreaking ceremony for the remodelling of the Council Hall signals a commitment to infrastructure renewal and a workspace befitting practitioners who serve as the conscience of society.

Under the banner “One Voice, New Era,” this anniversary serves as a reminder that the Council’s revival is a collective achievement, one made possible by members who embraced change and leadership that matched words with action.

Looking ahead, the task is to consolidate these gains. With continuous support from members, the NUJ FCT can deepen its influence, advance welfare, uphold professional ethics, and stand tall not only in Abuja but across Nigeria as a beacon of responsible journalism.

As the Council gathers on Thursday, 4 December 2025, at the Secretariat in Utako for the anniversary and groundbreaking ceremony, it does so with renewed purpose and a shared conviction: that the union’s brightest days are ahead.
