BREAKING: Nigeria plunges into blackout as national grid collapses
Several parts of Nigeria have been plunged into darkness on Monday following the collapse of the national power grid.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its official X handle.
NISO, which oversees the supply of electricity to distribution companies across the country, said power generation dropped sharply to about 50 megawatts after the collapse.
The agency added that efforts were underway to restore the grid and stabilise electricity supply nationwide.
As of the time of filing the report, NISO said only Abuja and Ibadan had 50 megawatts of electricity as against the 3,660 MW allocated on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
