2027: PDP reaffirms readiness to take over Kogi

The Chairman of the Kogi State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammed Gambo, has declared that the party is fully prepared to take over Lugard House in the 2027 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Friday in Lokoja, Gambo described the All Progressives Congress (APC) as “people living in a rented apartment,” insisting that the PDP would record a landslide victory if the election is free and fair.

“All Progressive Congress’s time is up. Kogi people should remain faithful to PDP, given the party’s strong structures and past record of prosperity in the state,” Gambo’s statement partly read.

Gambo appealed for peace, lawfulness, and collaboration on security, insisting, “Kogi is a PDP state.”

He also expressed confidence that PDP is working hard to strengthen its structures nationwide, with ambitions extending to Aso Rock.

“Kogi is a PDP state. Our structures are strong across the state and Nigeria. In a free and fair election, the PDP will win by a landslide,” he said.

He recalled PDP’s past governance as a time of prosperity and urged residents to remain calm and focused ahead of 2027.

“Let me say that the time for the APC government to pack their load from Lugard House is 2027. It is a call for no retreat, no surrender,” Gambo added.

He appealed to citizens to remain faithful to the PDP, support security efforts, and stay peaceful and law-abiding. “It is unfortunate that insecurity has overwhelmed us as a people. We, as a party, are willing to collaborate with the government on security, because there must be a state before any political party,” he stated.

Gambo concluded with optimism that PDP will reclaim Lugard House in 2027, reiterating that Kogi State has remained a PDP stronghold since 1999.

Very Nigerian reports that in recent electoral cycles, the APC has held significant sway in Kogi State.

In the 2023 governorship election, APC candidate Usman Ododo secured victory with a commanding share of the vote, defeating the PDP’s candidate and others by a wide margin.

Ododo polled about 446,237 votes against the Social Democratic Party’s 259,052 and the PDP’s 46,362.

This result reinforced APC’s control of the state’s executive arm.
