Kogi Gov signs two new revenue laws

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has signed into law two new revenue-related bills aimed at increasing the state’s income and making tax collection more open and accountable.

The newly signed laws are the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service Establishment Law, 2025, and the Kogi State Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025.

Speaking during the signing ceremony on Thursday, Governor Ododo said the laws are built around digital and technology-based systems. According to him, this approach is meant to reduce human interference in revenue collection and strengthen transparency and accountability.

The governor explained that the reforms will help block revenue leakages, ensure proper documentation of taxes and levies, and create a more efficient system that benefits both the government and taxpayers.

He added that the new framework will also make it easier for businesses and residents to understand what they are required to pay.

Ododo noted that the laws are part of his administration’s wider efforts to improve internally generated revenue and support sustainable development across the state.

Governor Ododo said the laws exempt individuals earning below N800,000 annually from tax and make it easier for businesses to invest through simplified processes and lower compliance costs.

“The purpose of these laws is to strengthen our economy, ensure fairness, and protect the dignity of our citizens,” he emphasized.
