Emeka Ihedioha registers with ADC in Imo, gets membership card No. 001

Former Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), completing his registration at Mbutu Ward in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.

Ihedioha’s entry into the ADC comes months after he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April 2024. In July 2025, the former governor publicly announced that the ADC had become the political platform for him and his supporters.

The registration exercise, which took place on Monday, was conducted by the party’s ward secretary, Obinna Opara, while the ward chairman, Alex Ahamuefula, presented Ihedioha with his ADC membership card, numbered 001.

The event attracted party leaders, stakeholders and community figures from within and outside the local government area, underscoring the political significance of the former governor’s move.

Speaking after receiving his membership card, Ihedioha described his decision to join the ADC as a carefully considered one, anchored on his belief in the party’s ideals of accountability, defined values and service-oriented leadership.

According to him, both Nigeria and Imo State are in urgent need of leadership that places public interest above personal ambition and is responsive to the needs of the people.

“Our people desire leadership that listens, serves and prioritises the common good over individual interests,” Ihedioha said. “I am convinced that the ADC offers a credible platform to pursue these objectives.”

He added that his decision to register at the ward level was a deliberate signal of his commitment to grassroots politics and inclusive political engagement.

Several national officials of the party were present at the event, including Bon Unachukwu, the ADC National Vice Chairman for the South-East, Maigari Kasimu, Deputy Diaspora Coordinator, and Uko Nkole, Coordinator of the Former Legislators’ Forum.

Unachukwu described Ihedioha’s entry into the party as a major boost for the ADC in the South-East and across the country, noting that the party was pleased to welcome a former governor with extensive legislative and executive experience.

At the state level, the Imo State Chairman of the ADC, James Okoroma, led members of the state executive committee to receive the former governor. He said Ihedioha’s decision to join the party would significantly strengthen its structure and influence in Imo State.
