Nasarawa strong politician Dr. Umbugadu dumps APC barely three weeks after joining party, returns to PDP
Dr. David Umbugadu, a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Nasarawa State, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress just three weeks after joining the ruling party.
In a letter addressed to the APC chairman of Ika/Wangibi Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Umbugadu cited political manoeuvres undermining his 2027 governorship ambition as the reason for his departure. Dated March 24, 2026, the letter confirmed his decision to return to the PDP, which he described as his political base.
Umbugadu had formally joined the APC on March 2, 2026, at the Government House in Lafia, in a ceremony attended by Governor Abdullahi Sule, former governors Abdullahi Adamu and Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, and other party officials.
Originally a member of the PDP since 2014, having defected from the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Umbugadu’s brief switch to the APC and swift return to the PDP signals a significant realignment in Nasarawa State politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
