BREAKING: Minister of State for Labour, Onyejeocha resigns, eyes return to House of Reps

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has announced her resignation as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment.

The former minister made the announcement on Friday via her official X account, describing her exit from the Federal Executive Council as the beginning of a new chapter in her political journey.

“It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment,” she wrote.

Onyejeocha expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in his administration, as well as to ministry staff, her constituents, and Nigerians at large.

“This is not an end but a new beginning. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve,” she added.

Her resignation is in line with a directive by President Tinubu requiring political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to step down from their current roles.

Onyejeocha, who represented Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives for 16 years between 2007 and 2023, is reportedly preparing to contest again for her former seat.

Her exit leaves Abia State without representation in the Federal Executive Council, underscoring ongoing political realignments as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections.
