Accord Party picks Osun Gov Adeleke as sole aspirant for primary election
The screening committee of the Accord Party has approved Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to take part in the party’s governorship primary holding today in Osogbo.
In a statement issued by Ibe Thankgod, chairman of the screening committee and the party’s national organising secretary, Adeleke was confirmed as the only aspirant cleared for the exercise.
He said the governor met all the requirements for nomination.
“The committee subsequently cleared Governor Adeleke as the sole aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket and concluded all required documentations with relevant bodies,” the statement reads.
Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, also confirmed the development to Very Nigerian.
“He was cleared and presented with a certificate of clearance as the sole aspirant for the governorship ticket,” he said.
He said the governor has assured the party of his readiness to responsibly unfurl the party’s banner for victory in the 2026 polls.
Adeleke formally joined Accord on Tuesday, days after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor said the move was necessitated by the need to continue his administration’s “delivery of good governance and democratic dividends”, which he claimed have earned applause locally and internationally.
