BREAKING: Gov Adeleke dumps PDP, joins Accord Party
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally pitched his tent with the Accord Party, days after dumping the Peoples Democratic Party.
The governor also confirmed he will seek a second term in office on the party’s platform.
Adeleke made the declaration on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, where he received national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
According to him, he quietly joined the party on November 6 after weeks of consultations with political stakeholders, traditional institutions and community influencers across the state.
He said his decision to contest under the Accord Party was driven by the desire to consolidate ongoing projects and sustain the delivery of social and infrastructural reforms that his administration has been credited for.
“The people of Osun State know why we have taken this step. We intend to pursue a second term under Accord to complete ongoing work and deepen the dividends of democracy that have been acknowledged both within and outside the state,” he said.
Adeleke explained that he chose Accord because the party’s ideology of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on worker welfare, social services, and people-centered policies.
“I welcome our party leaders to the Osun Government House. You are now part of us, just as I am now part of you. We must remain united as we prepare for the elections,” he added.
The governor noted that since joining Accord, he has embraced the philosophy of placing citizens’ well-being at the centre of governance, saying his administration has pursued welfare-driven policies “day and night.”
He told party supporters that Accord was now the vehicle to retain power in 2026, promising an inclusive leadership structure that accommodates all political tendencies.
“From Osun West to Osun East and Osun Central, this is our new platform for victory next year,” he said, calling on residents from Ijesaland, Ifeland, Igbomina, Iwoland, Osogbo, Modakeke, Gbongan, Ikire, Ikirun and other communities to “thumb up” for continued good governance.
Adeleke declared that the people voted for progress in 2022 and would support continuity in 2026.
“In honour of the wishes of stakeholders and the good people of Osun, I hereby declare formally for the Accord Party,” he announced.
