Operatives of the Ekiti State Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, have arrested five suspected fleeing bandits in the state.

The suspects were apprehended in Okemesi-Ekiti, located in Ekiti West Local Government Area, shortly after they reportedly alighted from a vehicle that brought them into the community.

Speaking with journalists, the Communications Officer of Ekiti Amotekun, Abiodun Adeleye, said the arrest followed a credible tip-off from residents of the area.

He noted that the timely information provided by members of the community helped the operatives to act swiftly and successfully carry out the operation.

He revealed that after immediate profiling of the suspects, incriminating weapons such as two locally-made guns, one axe, one dagger, two dogs, five cell phones and assorted charms were recovered from them.

He gave the details of the suspects as 28-year-Old Abdulahi , Ibrahim-25 , Adamu-25, Umar-31 and Yahaya-28.

The Amotekun spokesman added that the suspects claimed to be farmers from Jigawa and Kaduna states, but couldn’t provide more convincing explanations on their mission in the state.

He said, ” Upon interrogation by the arresting Officers of the town, their leader, Suleiman alongside others purported themselves to be farmers , who hail from Kaduna and Jigawa State, of which, no concrete evidence was proven for convincing.

“The suspects, with the exhibits recovered from them, have since been handed over to The Ekiti West Police Command for further investigation and necessary action.”

He reiterated the commitment of the Amotekun corps under the commandant of Brig. Gen. Olu Adewa(retd) to ward off criminal elements from the state and ensure security of lives and property.

Adeleye appealed to residents across the 16 Local Government Areas to support the security agencies with credible and timely information on suspicious individuals and activities in their communities for prompt action.
