APC appeals committee confirms disqualification of 65 Fubara loyalists in Rivers Assembly race
The Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly Screening Appeal Committee has confirmed the disqualification of 65 aspirants linked to Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 elections.
The committee, chaired by Abdul Mahmud, also noted that 33 aspirants were cleared after the screening exercise conducted on Saturday.
DAILY POST reports that the disqualified aspirants are largely believed to be loyal to Governor Fubara, while those cleared are associated with opposing political interests within the state APC structure.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Mahmud confirmed that the committee has so far received 19 appeals from some of the affected aspirants.
He added that the window for submission of appeals will close on Wednesday, after which a final list of cleared candidates will be released.
According to the committee, the review process remains ongoing and the final decision will only be made after all appeals have been considered and the deadline has elapsed.
The development is expected to further heighten political tensions within the Rivers APC ahead of the party’s primaries for the 2027 general elections.
