Gov. Makinde set to declare presidential bid, unveil PDP-APM alliance May 14

Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition on Thursday, May 14, during a major political rally scheduled to hold at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is expected to serve as the official launch of Makinde’s anticipated 2027 presidential bid, alongside the unveiling of a political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples’ Movement.

According to sources familiar with the development, preparations for the rally have intensified amid ongoing political realignments within Oyo State and the wider South-West region.

The sources disclosed that grassroots mobilisers, political associates and loyalists of the Oyo governor have commenced strategic consultations as efforts continue to build a broader political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political observers believe the moves are part of a wider strategy aimed at consolidating Makinde’s influence within the national political landscape while strengthening grassroots structures across Oyo State and beyond.

Insiders also revealed that consultations among stakeholders accelerated following unresolved internal disputes within the PDP at the national level, leading several political actors to begin considering alternative political arrangements.

The rally is expected to attract political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, traditional supporters and allies from different parts of the country, particularly those aligned with Makinde’s leadership style and political direction.

Although Governor Makinde has yet to officially confirm his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, support groups and close political associates have continued to intensify calls urging him to join the race.
