Arsenal held by spirited Sunderland after late drama in 2-2 draw
Sunderland continued their impressive return to the Premier League with a spirited performance against Arsenal, holding the in-form Gunners to a dramatic draw.
The Black Cats, who have been a breath of fresh air since their promotion, showed no fear against a side that had won ten straight games in all competitions.
Their early dominance paid off when Daniel Ballard, a product of the Arsenal academy, fired home the opener, ending Arsenal’s 812-minute run without conceding.
Arsenal responded strongly after the break. Declan Rice won possession in midfield, setting up Bukayo Saka, who drilled in a right-footed strike at the near post to level the score.
Martin Zubimendi came close to putting Arsenal ahead with a thunderous shot that rattled the woodwork before Leandro Trossard curled a stunning 20-yard effort into the top corner, appearing to seal the win.
