Nana Abraham of Barau FC stabbed in the neck during NPFL away match against Katsina United

Barau FC has reported that one of its players, Nana Abraham, was stabbed in the neck by a pitch invader during a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) game at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.

Ahmad Gwale, the club’s director of media operations told Very Nigerian that the incident occurred during Barau FC’s 1-1 draw against Katsina United on Saturday, shortly after the visitors equalised in the 69th minute.

According to Gwale, “one person from the Katsina United bench or one of their fans” invaded the pitch and attacked Abraham with a sharp object.

Viral images on social media showed the player lying on the pitch in pain with visible bloodstains around his neck.

The match was briefly stopped after the assault but later resumed, with Abraham substituted and rushed for medical treatment.

Gwale confirmed that the injured player is currently receiving medical care.

The violent episode mirrors a similar incident from earlier this year when Plateau United striker Vincent Temitope was stabbed in the neck by an angry fan during a league game at the Lafia City Stadium in Nasarawa.
