The Super Falcons of Nigeria have sealed their qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following a 1-1 draw with the Benin Republic at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

The defending champions progressed with a 3-1 aggregate win, having triumphed 2-0 in the first leg of the final qualifying round.

Head coach Justine Madugu made just one change to his starting lineup from the previous encounter, handing Asisat Oshoala a start in place of Chiwendu Ihezuo.

Very Nigerian reports that Nigeria began the match on the front foot and were rewarded in the 12th minute when defender Ashleigh Plumptre headed home from an Esther Okoronkwo corner to put the hosts ahead.

Despite creating several chances, the Falcons couldn’t extend their lead before halftime. Benin Republic later drew level in the 61st minute through Yasminath Djibril.

With this result, the Super Falcons maintain their impeccable record of qualifying for every edition of the WAFCON and will aim to defend their title when the tournament kicks off in Morocco next year.
