Atiku defeats Amaechi in Abia ADC presidential primary, polls 25,153 votes
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election in Abia State, defeating former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Atiku polled a total of 25,153 votes to emerge winner of the exercise, securing a comfortable lead over his closest challenger, Amaechi, who scored 18,339 votes.
Mohammed Hayatu-Deen came third in the contest with 3,264 votes.
The result was part of the ongoing state-by-state ADC presidential primary exercise, where delegates across the federation are participating in the selection of the party’s 2027 presidential flagbearer.
The Abia outcome adds to Atiku’s growing momentum in the exercise, which has seen multiple state-level victories recorded across different regions.
