Awujale stool: Protest erupts in Ijebu-Ode over alleged imposition plot
A peaceful protest erupted on Friday in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, following allegations of plans to impose the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
The protesters, drawn from different parts of the town, marched along Awujale Palace Road and proceeded to the Ijebu Ode Local Government Secretariat to express their opposition to the alleged move.
They said the process of selecting the traditional ruler must follow laid-down customs and traditions, stressing that any attempt to impose a candidate could threaten peace in the area.
Recall that the Ogun State Government, on Tuesday, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, halted the Awujale selection process following a flood of petitions received from security agencies and other stakeholders.
