Suspected bandits on Saturday night attacked Fananawa village in Bukuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving one person dead and five others abducted.
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the attack, stating that one resident was killed while another sustained injuries during the incident.
Police spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said five villagers were taken away by the attackers.
He added that security operatives have launched a rescue operation to track down the suspects and secure the release of the kidnapped victims.
“Our personnel are currently on a rescue mission, and very soon you will hear a success story,” Abubakar said.
Zamfara State remains one of the states most affected by banditry in the North West, with Bukuyum local government area frequently targeted despite sustained security operations.
