Zamfara North: Kaura secures APC ticket after fresh primary election
Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Zamfara North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections after winning a court-ordered re-run primary election.
Kaura secured the party’s ticket at the exercise held on Monday, November 2, 2026, polling 16,758 votes to defeat his two challengers, Sahabi Alhaji Yau and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi.
The results were announced on behalf of the Senatorial Primary Election Committee by its member, Sani Abdullahi.
According to the figures released by the committee, Yau polled 1,465 votes, while Shinkafi received 1,447 votes.
The committee disclosed that 23,257 voters were registered for the exercise, while 19,608 delegates were accredited. It added that 19,292 valid votes were recorded during the direct primary election.
Announcing the outcome, Abdullahi said Kaura had satisfied the requirements of the APC Constitution and the party’s electoral guidelines, having secured the highest number of valid votes.
He subsequently declared the senator the winner and returned him as the party’s candidate for Zamfara North Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
The official result sheet was reportedly signed by the committee’s chairman and secretary at the conclusion of the exercise on November 2.
The re-run primary followed a prolonged legal dispute over the party’s earlier nomination process.
The exercise was ordered after the Court of Appeal in Sokoto upheld a ruling by the Federal High Court in Gusau nullifying the previous primary election over alleged irregularities and directing the APC to conduct a fresh exercise.
