Bandits kill Community Volunteer in Bauchi, abduct wife Two Weeks after childbirth

Bandits attacked the Zalau community in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State late Sunday night, killing Alhaji Muhammad Bakoshi, a community volunteer and the JIBWIS Zalau Discipline Officer, and abducting his wife, who gave birth just two weeks ago.

According to security analyst Bakastine, who posted the update on his X handle, the attack reflects the worsening security situation in the area.

He said, “The abduction of Mrs. Bakoshi, coupled with the cold-blooded killing of Alhaji Bakoshi, signals the alarming reach of bandit groups beyond their traditional strongholds. Communities that were previously considered relatively safe are now at risk, and urgent intervention is required.”

Residents of Zalau said they were shocked by the attack, noting that Alhaji Bakoshi was committed to community peace-building efforts.

One resident, who asked not to be named, said, “He was dedicated to the welfare of our community,” stressing how painful the loss is for the people.

The incident mirrors a disturbing pattern of bandit attacks spreading into areas once considered safe, raising concern among citizens and security observers about the protection of vulnerable communities.

Reports suggest that families and individuals involved in community service are increasingly becoming targets, pointing to a shift in the tactics used by bandits toward more direct and personal assaults.

Residents in Toro Local Government Area are now living in fear, with many avoiding night travel as communities battle the rising threat of expanding bandit activities.

Security analysts warn that the spread of these attacks shows the urgent need for stronger action to tackle the growing insecurity in the region.
