Bandits storm polytechnic community in Zamfara, abduct seven students

Seven students of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State have been abducted by suspected bandits after gunmen invaded their off-campus residence in the Low-Cost area on the outskirts of Kaura Namoda town.

The Chairman of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, Hon. Mannir Haidara Kaura, confirmed the incident, saying security agencies had already launched rescue operations to secure the release of the victims.

According to one of the students of the institution, Ibrahim Ahmad, one of the abducted students managed to escape during the attack, leaving six others—three male and three female—in captivity.

A local concern group, the Concerned Citizens of Kaura Namoda, described the attack as part of a worsening pattern of insecurity in the area, alleging that residents have repeatedly fallen victim to kidnappings linked to a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Bello Dansadiya, and his gang. The group also referenced previous cases involving lecturers and community leaders who were abducted and reportedly held for months despite ransom payments.

The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying efforts had been intensified to rescue the remaining students. Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar noted that one of the victims escaped during the invasion.

He explained that the students’ residence was compromised after one of them reportedly stepped outside at night and left the door open, allowing the armed attackers to gain entry. He added that operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit, working alongside troops of Operation Fansan Yamma, had begun coordinated rescue operations.

Authorities assured that while the institution itself remains secured, efforts are ongoing to ensure the safe return of the abducted students.
