BREAKING: 17 Reps dump ADC for NDC as defections rock House of Representatives
No fewer than 17 members of the House of Representatives have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), further intensifying the wave of political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defections were formally announced during plenary on Tuesday, signaling a significant shift within the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
Among those who moved to the NDC are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, Munachim Umezuruike, Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene and Abdulhakeem Ado.
In a related development, Leke Abejide also announced his defection from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The latest moves underscore the growing instability within opposition parties, particularly the ADC, which has in recent weeks witnessed a series of high-profile exits linked to internal crises and legal disputes.
The development is expected to reshape political alignments within the House as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the next election cycle.
