BREAKING: Amaechi rejects outcome of ADC presidential primary

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, describing the process as flawed and lacking transparency.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, Amaechi alleged widespread voter disenfranchisement and electoral malpractice during the exercise, insisting that the results announced by the party do not reflect the will of genuine delegates.

“Following reports of widespread voter disenfranchisement in most parts of the country during the African Democratic Congress Presidential Primaries yesterday, I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” he stated.

Amaechi maintained that he had earlier pledged to accept only a free, fair and transparent process, stressing that he would not compromise on that position.

“I had initially stated that I would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, and I stand by my word,” he said.

He further accused the party leadership of betraying its founding ideals, which he said were centred on providing Nigerians with a credible alternative platform.

According to him, a large number of party members were allegedly denied participation in the voting process, questioning the legitimacy of the exercise.

“There’s no way that about eighty per cent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he added.

Amaechi also criticised the ADC for allegedly replicating the same electoral flaws it had previously condemned in other political parties, including vote buying and result manipulation.

“A party that criticises the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results cannot be engaged in the same practices,” he stated.

The ADC leadership is yet to officially release the final collated results from all states and the Federal Capital Territory. However, preliminary figures suggest a strong lead for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, with Amaechi trailing in second place and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen in third.
