BREAKING: Wike PDP faction declares Sen. Sandy Onor consensus presidential candidate for 2027 poll
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has announced Senator Sandy Onor as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The declaration was made on Tuesday during the collation of presidential primary results held at the Wadata Plaza, Abuja, by the Chairman of the Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
According to the committee, the selection process followed extensive consultations and voice votes conducted among party stakeholders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Officials said Senator Onor emerged as the sole aspirant after indicating interest in the race and purchasing his nomination and expression of interest forms earlier in the month.
Ortom explained that the committee engaged party members nationwide before arriving at the consensus decision, after which Onor was formally presented as the faction’s presidential candidate.
The exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, who were present at the party secretariat in Abuja.
Following his emergence, Senator Onor received a certificate of return and the party flag, officially confirming his status as the faction’s presidential standard bearer for the 2027 elections.
The development adds a new layer to the ongoing internal realignments within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
