BREAKING: Amid corruption trial, APC hands Yahaya Bello ticket for Kogi Central seat
Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has officially entered the race for the Kogi Central senatorial seat after obtaining the nomination form of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Bello picked up the form on Saturday, signalling his return to elective politics after completing two terms as governor of Kogi State.
Party sources indicate that the former governor is being positioned as a consensus candidate for the senatorial ticket, pending final confirmation from APC leadership structures in the state.
If successfully nominated, Bello is expected to contest against the incumbent senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), setting up what is expected to be a closely watched political contest in Kogi Central.
Bello, who governed Kogi State for eight years, handed over power to the current governor, Usman Ododo, following the end of his tenure.
His re-entry into elective politics marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape, with early indications suggesting that the APC is aiming to consolidate its influence in the region ahead of the 2027 polls
