BREAKING: Bandits invade Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Kogi, abduct many worshippers during service
Suspected bandits on Sunday morning attacked Ejigba community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting a pastor, his wife and several worshippers during a church service.
The assailants in an information gathered by Very Nigerian sources, stormed a newly established Cherubim and Seraphim Church while service was ongoing.
An eyewitness, Adegboyega Oguns, said the congregation fled in terror as gunmen invaded the worship centre.
He noted that the pastor, widely known in the community as Orlando, was taken alongside his wife and other members of the church.
“It’s a new Cherubim and Seraphim church.”
“The pastor popularly called Orlando and his wife, with some others, have been kidnapped,” Oguns further confirmed.
The attack adds to a disturbing pattern of recent assaults on religious institutions.
Just days ago, gunmen raided a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State, killing two worshippers and abducting several congregants.
Some of the victims later regained their freedom, though a number remain in captivity.
Across the North and parts of the Middle Belt, bandits and terrorist groups have intensified attacks on schools, churches and rural communities, kidnapping hundreds in coordinated raids.
Security agencies say efforts are ongoing to stabilise the situation, with increased deployment of soldiers and specialised police units to vulnerable communities.
