BREAKING: Ex-Tinubu’s loyalist, Babachir Lawal dumps ADC, says Atiku incompetent, shouldn’t come close to presidential office
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, has reportedly resigned from the African Democratic Congress following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
According to reports, Lawal alleged that the ADC presidential primary was manipulated in favour of Atiku, claiming the results were predetermined to ensure the former vice president’s victory.
The former SGF reportedly said he could not be part of what he described as Atiku’s “rigging machine” ahead of the 2027 election and announced his decision to leave the party.
Lawal was also quoted as saying that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would make a better president than Atiku, despite his previous criticisms of the current administration.
In his reported remarks, Lawal accused Atiku of lacking the competence required to lead Nigeria and described him as a divisive political figure.
The development is expected to deepen political tensions within opposition circles as parties and political blocs continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Neither Atiku nor the ADC leadership had officially responded to the reported allegations at the time of filing this report.
