“He likes silk cigarettes very much” – Babachir Lawal speaks on Tinubu’s lifestyle
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has shared personal details about President Bola Tinubu’s lifestyle, describing him as a man of simple habits who was particularly fond of Silk cigarettes.
Speaking during a recent interview with Symfoni TV, Lawal said Tinubu was never someone who lived an extravagant lifestyle or paid much attention to food.
“He is not even someone who enjoys food. He wakes up in the morning, sees bananas in the living room, eats them with groundnuts, and that is his breakfast. Sometimes they bring him pap with moi moi,” Lawal said.
Asked whether Tinubu also ate akara, he replied, “No, I have never seen akara. It is usually pap and moi moi.”
Lawal further disclosed that the President had a strong liking for Silk cigarettes.
“The only thing I know he likes very much is Silk cigarettes,” he said.
When asked if Tinubu smoked, Lawal responded: “He smokes. I don’t know whether he still does now… but he liked Silk cigarettes very much. He could hardly do without them.”
The former SGF also urged the President to prioritise his health, saying age and declining health could affect performance in office.
Lawal, however, dismissed claims that Tinubu accumulated wealth for a lavish lifestyle, insisting that the President was not a man who revelled in luxury.
