Former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has died at the age of 71 after a brief illness.

Uduaghan’s death was announced by his family in a statement signed by Toju Andre Uduaghan on Monday, October 19, 2026.

The statement, titled “Announcement of the Passing of His Excellency, Dr Chief Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan,” said the former governor died on the morning of October 19.

The family expressed profound grief over his death, describing him as a beloved father, brother, uncle and patriarch whose life and public service touched many people across Delta State and Nigeria.

“His passing has left us devastated. Words can hardly express the depth of our sorrow at the loss of a man who meant so much to our family and whose life and service touched countless others across Delta State and Nigeria,” the statement read.

The family described Uduaghan as a source of strength, a father figure and a respected elder, adding that his presence would be deeply missed.

Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007 before becoming governor in 2007.

He governed the state for two terms, leaving office in 2015. During his years in public service, he pursued initiatives aimed at promoting human and infrastructural development across Delta State.

The family described his death as a profound loss to their household, the people of Delta State and Nigeria, while expressing gratitude to God for his life, service and legacy.

They also prayed for the repose of his soul and for comfort for relatives, friends, associates, former colleagues and others mourning his death.

“Rest well, our beloved Father, Brother, and Uncle. Your memory will forever remain in our hearts, and your legacy will endure in the lives of those you touched,” the statement added.

The family concluded with a prayer for his peaceful rest.
